What are the symptoms of type 2 diabetetes?

I had two symptoms of type 2 diabetes and did not know I was diabetic.

  1. My sugar would run high and I would feel sleepy and fatigued.
  2. I was thirsty and drank a lot of water (and went to the bathroom a lot).

I complained to my doctor about not sleeping very well at night becasue I went to the bathroom 4-5 times at night.  He put me on FlowMax but it did not help me becasue I did not have a urinary problem.  I had an insulin resistance problem.

After taking Metformin to treat insulin resistance, I found myself going to the bathroom much less.

I actually had all of the diabetic symptoms below but just did not put 2 and 2 together.  In other words, I did not associate my hunger and weight gain to a disease.

  • I was thirsty
  • I was urinating
  • I was fatigued
  • I was hungry
  • I was gaining weight

Summary of my type 2 diabetes symptoms: my body was trying to throw off the excess sugar (urination), my body needed more water to throw off the sugar (thirsty), my cells did not have enough sugar or energy (fatigue), my cells were starviing for energy (hungry), and my body needed more fuel (ate more and gained weight).
